Haldummulla Estate's white planter's bungalow on its lawn beneath forested hills in late afternoon light
Haldummulla · Uva hill country · Sri Lanka

Simple. Remote. Calm.

Two planter's bungalows to rent full board on our own 50 acres of organic tea and wilderness in the hills of Sri Lanka.

Welcome

A quaint artisanal tea and coffee farm in the lush hills

Wake with the chirping of birds, skip through the tea with monkeys, hike through forests, or simply laze on the lawn with a book.

The estate sits on an undulating plateau just under the high pass and quaint railway station of Idalgashinna, on the famously scenic Kandy to Badulla line. The land is a mixture of tea and wilderness with spectacular views over the plains below to the south.

Haldummulla is a place to unwind in a homely, uncluttered open space. Priya and her family look after you, with aromatic curries always simmering in her little kitchen. We love it, and hope you will too.

What our guests say

It was a true privilege to spend two nights at the Bungalow. The accommodation has been lovingly & beautifully restored, with views across the valley which are to die for. Priya & her family poured incredible care & attention into every aspect of our stay… Her cooking was the best we had in Sri Lanka by a mile.

Having just spent 3 nights here I can honestly say this is a dream location… Not to mention the fires at night, the hot baths and the most delicious rocket salad from their garden.

We spent a couple of nights in the Library bungalow. Very peaceful, lovely setting, tasty simple food, delicious tea, good service and a treasure trove of books and records. The evenings were cool and we lit a fire.

We were looked after incredibly well by Priya and her family, including delicious restaurant standard food.

Our tea experience

Don't just drink the tea. Make it.

Our tiny Harry Potter-inspired tea factory produces very fine hand-rolled tea, one kilo at a time, made by our "Tenacious Ten" tea pluckers and makers. It's sold in restaurants and specialist tea shops in Europe.

Visit the factory with Karu, our estate manager, or, if you enquire in advance, join a two-day course: pluck with our ladies one morning and roll your own batch the next. The experience is free.

For walkers

Right by Pekoe Trail Stage 12

The bungalow is just off Stage 12 of the Pekoe Trail, Sri Lanka's long-distance walking trail, which runs from Udaweriya to Haputale via Idalgashinna railway station. Stay a night or two between stages, or use the estate as a base for day walks.
